Date: August 12, 2024-The Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare, together with its partners, signed a commitment to accelerate the implementation of the South Sudan Women’s Social and Economic Empowerment Project.

This strategic cooperation involving the Ministry of Gender, UN Women, and partners including Amref, Norwegian People’s Aid, Care International, SPEDP, and Caritas Switzerland was attended by the Minister of Gender, Hon. Aya Benjamin Warrile, UN Women Regional Director Ms. Hodan Addou, and officials from the partners.

It marked the official launch of the component 1 activities aimed at empowering women and adolescent girls in South Sudan. The component, focusing on community empowerment, aims to benefit 48,000 individuals, including women, adolescent girls, and men, across all South Sudanese states and administrative areas.

The South Sudan Women’s Social and Economic Empowerment Project, a transformative initiative aimed at empowering women and adolescent girls to become active participants in South Sudan’s economic and social development, received this boost during a ceremony marked by ululations and cheers from stakeholders.

The minister commended the team’s hard work despite facing obstacles, acknowledging that the project’s implementation is currently behind schedule. She urged everyone to work together to ensure that the project reaches its full potential to benefit women and girls in the country.

“We don’t want the project to fail, so we will work together to successfully implement it,” said Hon. Aya.

UN Women’s Regional Director, Hodan Addou, assured support for the project, emphasizing the rigorous partner selection process and commitment to its success.

She pledged her support for the project, saying that they are committed to it and will strive to ensure its success.

Minister Aya Benjamin Warrile emphasized the importance of hard work and coordinated efforts at the signing ceremony.

“Your faith in us will not go unnoticed. Thank you for entrusting us. “We look forward to continued success as we collaborate,” she said.

The project manager, Timothy Yobuta, announced the onboarding of partners for the community empowerment component, highlighting the project’s focus on improving services for women, girls, entrepreneurs, and victims of gender-based violence, as well as enhancing government capacity.
