The Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare (MGCSW) has officially received
essential equipment from UN Women, one of the Ministry’s key implementing partners,
to strengthen gender-based violence (GBV) response systems in South Sudan. UN
Women procured these assets as part of institutional strengthening mechanisms
designed to support the Ministry in achieving its GBV response objectives.
The transferred assets include HP Dragonfly laptops, HONDA XR 190 CT motorcycles,
office furniture, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, and a 50KVA generator — all designated
to enhance the Ministry’s toll-free GBV helpline operations. These tools will support both
administrative functions and field operations, ensuring timely services for survivors
nationwide.
The handover took place under the South Sudan Women’s Social and Economic
Empowerment Project (SSWSEEP), a World Bank-funded initiative that supports the
Government of South Sudan in delivering essential services to its citizens.
UN Women Country Representative Delphine Serumaga and MGCSW Undersecretary
Hon. Esther Ikere formalized the transfer through signed letters, affirming the Ministry’s
full ownership and exclusive use of the assets for GBV-related work, particularly the
helpline services.
This asset transfer demonstrates the ongoing partnership between UN Women and
MGCSW in empowering women and girls while building responsive, inclusive welfare
systems that serve South Sudan’s most vulnerable populations.
